Ubisoft: drie nieuwe IPs elke drie jaar

Ubisofts Jay Cohen kondigt aan elke drie jaar drie belangrijke projecten uit te brengen en waarschuwt voor IPs die leunen op licenties. IPs? Wat zijn dat? Dat zijn Intellectual Properties en bij Ubisoft moet je hierbij denken aan Rayman of Red Steel en in de toekomst Assassin's Creed. Publishing Vice President Jay Cohen geeft aan dat het succes van Ubisoft grotendeels toegeschreven kan worden aan hun nieuwe IPs. Cohen verwacht elke drie jaar ook drie IP titels uit te brengen. "So every year, you're going to be seeing something that's going to be brought out by Ubisoft. If we can keep doing that, they're sustainable, and they're ours. We can take them with us no matter where we go." Met deze strategie in gedachten waarschuwt Cohen voor gelicenseerde IPs. Op het moment dat de licenties verlopen komen deze projecten in gevaar. "For example, look at SEGA 2K Sports. They had the NFL license, and now they don't. Boy, they're kind of screwed... That's a big hole in somebody's business plan.
